SCOVIL PRODUCTIONS is a family-owned film production company led by award-winning producer Gary Scovil located in Daphne, Alabama. Gary started his career as an audio engineer in the mid 1970s, having produced film soundtracks and music albums for artists of every style. He engineered the audio for Against Wind and Tide: A Cuban Odyssey, nominated for an Academy Award in 1982. His son Max follows in his father's footsteps as a camera operator and filmmaker himself, and his daughter Brooke is a graphic designer with a BFA in Illustration.
HISTORY
Our company started in the mid 1970s as a multi-track recording studio, producing film scores, albums for musical artists of all styles, and radio commercials.
SCOVIL PRODUCTIONS had several name changes to reflect the times, but has always been owned and operated by Gary Scovil.
SCOVIL PRODUCTIONS added video production in the early 1980s and in 1984 changed our name to SPOTLIGHT VIDEO, servicing the burgeoning consumer video market.
By the early 1990s, SPOTLIGHT VIDEO had out-grown its original mandate and changed our name to VISION MEDIA, moving into the production of corporate training and promotional videos, cable television shows and television commercials. | | Gary Scovil in his sound recording studio, 1980. |
Over the years, VISION MEDIA become one of the country's most respected companies for state-of-the-art video and audio production. In 2009, Gary Scovil decided, after the expansion to Alabama, there is nothing better for name recognition than one's own name and decided to go back to SCOVIL PRODUCTIONS.
In the early 1990s, Gary Scovil saw that the future of video production would be in computer technology. SCOVIL PRODUCTIONS made the switch to the latest in cutting edge technology computer equipment, while other "Old School" companies were left in the dust. SCOVIL PRODUCTIONS' clients come to rely on the creativity and uncompromising technical support they receive with every project.
SCOVIL PRODUCTIONS now primarily focuses on film production, having produced several documentaries in recent years, but SCOVIL PRODUCTIONS will always be available for studio and on-location video/audio services to clients. Our clients include Fortune 500 corporations, broadcasters, independent producers, and many more.
